No Longer "Looking for Alaska"

I have a couple mixed thoughts about this book because it’s not really the type of book I would be into. There were really only 2 sort of big events that happened in the book. The rest of the book led up to those moments but it didn’t seem to build it up very much to me. I usually can’t read a book like that, when it’s got a really mellow tone throughout it. However, I actually really enjoyed the book. I’m not sure why exactly that is, but something about it just caught my attention and even though it wasn’t a book that I couldn’t put down, it was one that I didn’t want to stop reading.

I was a little unsure about a few things. I read the last bit of the book so quickly because I wanted to finish it before my English class was over so I could give it back to my teacher that day. From what I understood about the book, Miles and Chip still aren’t 100% sure what happened to Alaska. They have a lot of good ideas and I get the feeling that they were getting very close to figuring it out, if they hadn’t already. I actually liked that about this book. The tragedy that happens to Alaska is in about the middle of the book and then the rest of it shows how Miles, Chip, Takumi, and Lara cope with it. It sort of eases the book out, if that makes any sense, so that when you finish, you don’t ABSOLUTELY need to know exactly how the accident happened.

A couple things that I really liked were that they decided to do an Annual Alaska Young Prank. I thought that it was so sweet and sincere because Alaska would have loved it. It is so her and she loved a good prank! I also really enjoyed the last bit of the last chapter. The writing is so powerful and worded so wisely. It’s really quite moving.

I would recommend this book to anyone, and give it a good review if I was asked. If someone read it, didn’t like it, and didn’t finish it, I would at least tell them to read the last chapter because I liked it so much. That was my favorite part of the book!

Oh, and just to add something, I don’t think that the accident was on purpose. She could have done it on purpose because she thought it would bring her closer to her mom, but I also think that she would have realized that after if she had made it to the grave.
